Pregnant! - The Doyle Dispatch

This picture was taken the day we found out that I was pregnant while we were celebrating our anniversary in Savannah, GA. At this point, we assumed that I was 4 weeks, 1 day pregnant. Later, after the first ultrasound, we discovered that this was at about 3 weeks, 5 days.

Telling the Parents: Although we probably should have waited a little longer, this was exciting news, and we knew that both of our families needed this good news as much as we did. Plus, I hadn’t talked to my mom for days after we found out (because if I talked to her on the phone I knew I would let it slip…) and I needed to talk to my mommy!  So, while we were in Savanna, we went to the Tervis Tumbler store and picked up some grandmother and grandfather tumblers. We wrapped them up and made a stop by Charlottesville on our way back to Richmond. There were faces of disbelief and some tears, and then came the hugs. Lots and lots of hugs. And then, they had to promise to keep a secret. Boy, were we mean!

Physical Symptoms: Lack of sleep, restlessness, slight nausea at night, hunger/lack of hunger, slight cramping

Emotions: Surreal feeling, undeniable happiness, disbelief, shock, stomach butterflies, shaking from excitement, extreme happiness, calm and peacefulness despite the uncertainty of the next few weeks

Cravings: Nothing yet, but I wanted a lot of seafood after a delicious meal of crab legs on our anniversary. We were staying in a great seafood town, however. Transferred to fruit (especially blackberries and strawberries)

Food Aversions: Towards the end of the week: most everything (I will take 2 bites of food after being starving, and then completely lose my appetite)

Pregnancy Milestones: A positive POAS test and blood test, naming the baby “Peanut” and referring to it as “him,” telling the parents and one good set of friends, first nausea wave and dry heaving overnight

Purchases for Peanut: Tervis Tumblers for the grandparents, Peanut’s first bib (a clover from an Irish store on the day we found out we would be parents), lots and lots of food (that goes uneaten)

Peanut’s Size: Poppyseed

This was the first of the official pregnancy pictures! I love how Tim posed for the first picture, while I was working on settings. Look at that handsome dad-to-be!

We started a tradition this week where we bought the food of whatever the baby would be, size-wise.  At 5 weeks, the baby is the size of a sesame seed, so we got some sesame seed bagels. It is crazy to think of how small that living thing is… and that is inside me!

Physical Symptoms: Vivid dreams (difficult to remember in the morning), slight nausea at different times of the day, hunger, slight cramping, racing heart, nausea, lower pelvis pain, pain in left hip

Emotions: Stomach butterflies (slower down), extreme happiness, nervousness for miscarriage/chemical pregnancy, anxious for first ultrasound, drastic mood swings

Cravings: Nachos, ginger, crab legs

Food Aversions: Sweets after a full meal

Pregnancy Milestones: Seeing the lower bump of my uterus popping out

Purchases for Peanut: Preggy Pops… lots and lots of Preggy Pops to combat the nausea

Peanut’s Size: Sesame seed

I love how I started to have a little tummy in this picture. Although it was probably due to bloating, it was nice to have the feeling that I had to cover up my tummy, since it was still a surprise at this point.

Physical Symptoms: Tired, fewer cramps, no more butterflies, boughts of extreme nausea (helped by applesauce, barely-yellow bananas, and crackers)

Emotions: Emotional, moody (mostly in-a-bad-moody), extreme happiness, extreme worry

Cravings: Berries (especially blueberries, sweet strawberries, and blackberries)

Food Aversions: Almost everything (changes daily)

Pregnancy Milestones: Losing weight, first ultrasound (see announcement on following week), told UD, Grandpop, Kevin, Lauryn, Kathleen, Tee, and Liam.

Purchases for Peanut: More Preggy Pops, knit boy/girl hats from Aunt Jackie (Tim’s Grandmom’s sister) as a gift from Grandpop even before he knew

Peanuts’ Sizes: Sweet pea

Ultrasound - 6w3 Surprise Surprise

What a surprise we had at our first ultrasound on April 24… TWO HEARTBEATS! No wonder the “morning” sickness was kicking my butt already and I already started to get a tummy. Thankfully, it was unseasonably cold outside, so I could cover it up with my winter gear and layers.

Physical Symptoms: “Morning” sickness hitting in the evenings and when there is downtime first thing in the morning (gets better when there is something to do during the day), cramping again, congestion (pregnancy or pollen?), strong sense of smell, no ability to discuss food, exhaustion (!!!!)

Emotions: Mostly excited about twins, but still overwhelmed and nervous when thinking about it, emotional wreck over Target commercial (kids getting into college), shock

Cravings: baked potatoes and smoothies (Angel Food from Smoothie King)

Food Aversions: Most everything

Pregnancy Milestones: First noticeable bump. We can see it!

Purchases for Peanut: “Before You Were Born” book from Richmond Science Museum, closet system bought and installed

Peanuts’ Sizes: Blueberries
