Jord Wood Watch Review

IMG_8786
I’ve worn the same watch every day (on and off, at least), for the last 10 years (a Citizen Eco Drive like this, but with more rounded case). I really like that watch, but was just starting to feel like I needed a little change when Dory surprised me with the opportunity to try a wooden Fieldcress Black watch made by Jord.

The watch arrived packaged in a nice wooden (of course!) box. Everything was wrapped securely in bubble wrap to prevent any damage during shipping. The watch came out of the box in perfect condition.

IMG_8792

Right out of the box, I was struck with how much of the wood grain was visible with this watch. The model I ordered (Fieldcress in Black) looks very dark on the website. While it is a dark watch, the wood grain on the case and band really show through and add a ton of visual appeal and interest. The natural character this adds is something that you really can’t fake.

IMG_8795

The second thing I noticed when picking this watch up was how lightweight it was. After a decade of wearing a stainless steel watch and band, the difference was amazing. Even though the case and band are thicker than my other watch (noticeably so, though not so thick as to cause issues with shirt sleeves getting caught up), the Jord watch is extremely light and comfortable, and many times I forget I am even wearing it at all.

IMG_8798

On the website, the enclosed instructions, and even on the watch case, it specifies that the watch is not waterproof. Jord says “Each JORD watch is designed to be splash proof but is not intended for complete submergence in water.” After seeing the watch in person, that seems pretty accurate. I wouldn’t hesitate to wear it out briefly in light rain, but I do take it off when I’m rinsing off dishes and am even careful when washing my hands with it on.

IMG_8802

Jord gives you the choice to pre-size your watch band by entering your wrist measurements (they even have a detailed guide and ruler you can print out). Even after this sizing, my watch band was a bit big for me, but they use standard cotter pins and it was simple to remove a few links to get the right fit.

IMG_8803

Overall, I really like this watch and have enjoyed wearing it as a change-of-pace from my trusty old Citizen. They are a great value – the watches have a lot of character and visual appeal for the price. With Father’s Day right around the corner, I think this would be a good gift for someone that likes watches or is looking for something a little different. For the watch aficionados, they even have some automatic models (meaning that it is all mechanical and doesn’t need a battery).

With Mother’s Day last Sunday, they even do have female watches. Dory was actually quite jealous of my handsome new watch, and I have caught her checking out the women’s section every now and then.

*Disclaimer: We received this Jord wooden watch for review purposes. We did not receive additional compensation for this review. All opinions are 100% our own.

Review: Undercover Mama Nursing Shirt

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.
Undercover Mama Nursing Shirt Review - DoyleDispatch.com

Breastfeeding on a good day is an adventure. With twins, it is like an expedition to Mount Everest. You need your special pillow, hospital-grade pump, special cream, pads, burp cloths, nursing bras and tanks, supplements (maybe), and something for Mommy and Daddy to do while they are feeding (you can only stare at your babies so much).

One thing that I used very early on after coming home from the hospital were nursing tanks. I loved the coverage to keep my tummy warm during feedings, but I also loved the easy access for babies. I could throw a sweater over it for the colder times in my house. Once my milk got going, however, those tanks simply didn’t give my “girls”  the support they needed. I then moved onto only wearing the nursing tanks a couple of times a week (instead of every day). On the other days, I would wear one of my nursing bras and a pre-pregnancy tank top (which would then come flying off whenever it was time for a feeding).

Enter the Undercover Mama Nursing Shirt. The idea of this product is that you connect it to your bra, and it turns your bra into a nursing tank.

Undercover Mama Review - DoyleDispatch.com

Well, I have to say that I was hesitant about the Undercover Mama tank when I first heard about it (and found out that I would be receiving one). After all, wouldn’t it basically just do the same thing as a nursing tank? Well, yes and no.

Below are some pictures that I took as I attached the tank to my bra. It has a rubber white ring and an S clip so you can attach your shirt to any bra.

Undercover Mama Review - DoyleDispatch.com

I used the rubber ring to loop the tank through the clip-on part of the nursing bra:

It fits securely and comfortably onto my bra. Because the ring is flexible, it can fit around many different width bras. I imagine the S hook is so that it can go onto a regular (non-nursing) bra as well.

Now, to answer the question: “Isn’t it just like a nursing tank?”

Not really! Here’s why: Yes, you will have the same usefulness as a nursing tank. You can wear it comfortably around the house and not expose your post-pregnancy tummy. The benefit to wearing the Undercover Mama instead of a tank is that you will be able to use your actual bras. That means real support for your “girls” at a time when they need all the support they can get (back pain while having infants at home = no good).

I decided to wear the Undercover Mama on a trip to Charlottesville for a friend’s baby shower. I brought the twins, and I needed to feed them (my first public feeding… yikes!). I threw on my nursing cover, pulled up my sweater (overtop the Undercover Mama), pulled down one side of my bra, put a baby underneath it, and let him nurse. My stomach stayed covered, babies got fed (one at a time), and I was still able to wear my supportive nursing bra. Game changer! This is one product that I WILL be purchasing more of, in some of the many beautiful colors they offer.

Review and Giveaway: Everly Grey Maternity

*This giveaway has ended. Congrats to our winner, Jenna N!*

*I received the products listed in this post in exchange for my review of them. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*

I am thrilled to share a wonderful maternity clothing company with you today; Everly Grey. They have a fantastic array of different clothes and styles: tops, bottoms, dresses, sweaters, and nursing items. They also have an amazing sale section with fantastic prices on some great items. Their dresses for this fall season are incredible, and I wish I found out about them a couple months ago, as I would have loved to get some of their dresses for the showers or special occasions that we had this summer.

I was fortunate enough to have them send me two items to review. Because I am so late into my pregnancy, I wanted to focus on items that could be used throughout the winter, and especially while breastfeeding the twins.

The first item I got was the Jaden Long Sleeve Henley in Teal Stripe. My first impression was that I love the color. I am obsessed with jewel-tone colors, especially my favorite: teal/turquoise. It retails for $45 and is worth every penny. It isn’t overly “maternity,” because it doesn’t have the cinched waist. Because of this, I hope that I will be able to wear this shirt post-pregnancy as well.

Everly Gray Maternity Review - DoyleDispatch.com

It is so soft and comfortable. I can picture many days just lounging around the house with this soft shirt.

The next item I received was the Sherman Spring Sweater in Fuschia Stripe. This one was on sale for $37.99, and it is just one size. They also have the Sherman Wrap and Sherman Sweater Wrap in many other colors, and I am sure that these other wraps fit the same way as this one.

I am currently wearing it right now. I am obsessed. I love how light-weight it is and how it covers me in all the right places. I can let it hang, and it looks great over some basic clothes.

I can also picture wearing it with my nursing tanks this winter for a little more warmth in my house (but still easy access for feedings). How great is that?

Plus, if I want to wrap it around my tummy, I can. In fact, when I was wearing it today, I also had my maternity support belt on, and I used this to cover it up slightly, so it wasn’t just BOOM MATERNITY BELT.

Yes, it looked much better with the wrap around me to hide that beauty.

I am thrilled that Everly Grey is offering one reader a Sherman Sweater. The contest will be open from November 7-22. Good luck! You can use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter!

My Grandest Adventure Review and Giveaway

*This giveaway is now over. Congratulations, Randi S. for being our winner!*

My Grandest Adventure Review and Giveaway- DoyleDispatch.com

*I received the prints below in exchange for my review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*

I am so excited to share some amazing art with you (plus a giveaway and a coupon code). I am even more excited that it is a part of our nursery!!!

About 4 months ago, in my Pinteresting (that’s a word, isn’t it?), I came across this adorable print of a girl’s sailor outfit.

My Grandest Adventure Review and Giveaway- DoyleDispatch.com

It was so absolutely adorable that I pinned it right away to my Nautical Nursery board. I then forgot about it briefly as I worked on the big items in the nursery.

Then, about two months ago, I was looking back through my pins, and I came across it again. I re-fell in love! I went to the Etsy shop of the artist, and I looked at all of the work by the artist. My jaw was literally on the ground with a puddle of drool all around it (good mental picture, eh?).

That was how I got introduced to Amelia Murdock of My Grandest Adventure.

My Grandest Adventure Review and Giveaway- DoyleDispatch.com

When I contacted Amelia about the print (and the matching boy’s sailor outfit), she was so generous and offered to send me both prints for our nursery. I was floored! We were looking for something to hang over the cribs, and these would be perfect!

When they arrived, I was floored with how adorable they were!

First of all, the packaging was so cute! I love me some washi tape and a personalized note!

Then, when I opened it up, it was just as precious with more washi tape and notes. They are printed on the best paper and hand-signed on the back. I couldn’t ask for something more perfect! My Grandest Adventure Review - DoyleDispatch.com

I went to a craft store and found these really precious frames. They are wooden, but they are whitewashed to give it an antiqued look.

We haven’t hung them up on the wall yet, as we are waiting for the curtains to get here first. But can’t you see how they are going to match everything so well?

I absolutely love them, and they are going to be perfect for us to see every time we look at that wall. Thank you, Amelia!

If you go to her website, My Grandest Adventure, you can see adorable prints that Amelia has done, as well as her beautiful fine art. She even has some free paper dolls available for you.

Pop Doggie Review & Giveaway

Well, I’m back with a great giveaway!

While searching Etsy for anything and everything Toller (Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever… the breed of our Lucy), I came across this adorable print by Pop Doggie:

Pop Doggie Toller Print

Kari Egan is the artist behind Pop Doggie, and I had to contact her about this. After all, doesn’t that Toller look just like our Lulu?

Lucy 2012 - The Doyle Dispatch

She loved seeing the pictures of Lucy, and she was wonderful to offer to send us a 5×7 print shown above for us to review. Wow!

We got the shipment very fast (the first sign of GREAT customer service), and it came in a hard envelope, very well packaged. That baby was not going to get bent, no matter how hard the postman tried. The print came packaged in a nice cellophane envelope. Of course, I was too anxious to see my new print, and I tore it out of there before snapping a picture. Kari did include her business card and a cute little tag.

But the print… It was perfect! It was a great size, and the colors were identical to what was shown on her Etsy site. It was printed on very nice paper, and you could tell it was professionally done. I was impressed! Of course, I ran right out and got a frame for it.

Pop Doggie Print - The Doyle Dispatch

It is totally different than the usual art and plain black frames that we have in our house, so this was a fun addition to the Doyle Living Room.

Perfect, right? Thanks so much for sending us this great print, Kari!

Now for the giveaway!

Origami Owl Giveaway

The giveaway is now over.
Congrats Amanda S.  for winning! Out of over 1300 entries, yours was the lucky one.
Thanks to everyone that entered!

Back earlier this year, I received my first Origami Owl necklace: a locket and 4 charms inside. It is simply beautiful, and I wear it practically every day. Inside are the symbols of our family: the four-leaf clover for Tim and his family, the chai for me and my family (“chai” means “life” in Hebrew), a dog bone for Lucy the Dog, and a paw print for Toby the Cat.

IMG_3468

I had the hardest time narrowing down the choices to just those 4. I also loved the round plates that can go in the back, the dangles, and the tags. So many options!

What is Origami Owl?

Origami Owl was founded in 2010 with modest beginnings. The goal was simply to fuel the founder Bella’s car fund. She started by selling these lockets at home parties and events. The news of her jewelry spread, and others wanted to sell it as well.

DSCF2115

Who can sell Origami Owl?

Because Bella was so young when she started selling, she allows girls age 14 and up to sell her jewelry (with parent permission). What a great opportunity for young ladies to learn about business and customer service at such a young age! If you are interested, I know that our giveaway sponsor, Kelly, would be happy to fill you in on the details of starting your own Origami Owl business.

Where did the name Origami Owl come from?

The founder Bella Weems always loved origami and had it hanging around her house when she was young. She loves how it also represents her lockets: “Each person folds in their own way, so all have unique characteristics. That’s the signature of Origami Owl jewelry. No two are exactly alike.” (source: http://kraftymama.blogspot.com/p/origami-owl.html)

key

What makes Origami Owl different than those other jewelry companies?

There are several points of difference that sets Origami Owl apart: customizable, exclusive designs, exceptional price point, design quality, O2 charms, O2 living lockets, O2 dangles, O2 chains, O2 clasps, O2 plates, pewter tags, natural stone, and packaging. If you want to read about any of these in more detail, click on the link to look at the PDF: PointsOfDifferencePDF

How much are Origami Own necklaces?

You can pay anywhere from $25 to $100+ for a necklace, depending on what you add to it. The lockets are $20-38, the charms that go inside are $5 each, the dangles are $6-10, the plates are $7-9, and the chains are $8-22. You can really mix and match to fit any budget!

About Kelly, Independent Origami Owl Designer

Kelly is from a small town in Illinois. She met her husband when she was a teenager, but it wasn’t until their path crossed again as adults that they knew it was their time to be together. They got married in 2005 and they had an instant family, as she became a stepmother to his two boys. As their family quickly grew, she knew that she needed to do something that would allow her to fulfill her dream of staying home and raising their children as well as helping out financially. When she was pregnant with her third child, she found Origami Owl. We was suddenly able to tell her story without saying a single word. Immediately, she was hooked. OO is a conversation starter.

As she wrote: “Your jewelry matches every outfit and every occasion. We have such a large selection of charms that include hobbies, occupations, awareness ribbons, birthstones, children, family, pets…the list goes on and on.  You can add dangles, plates, change out the necklace, etc.  They make wonderful heartfelt gifts that are one of a kind.  I love seeing tears well up in my customers eyes as they open their new locket or tagged collection necklace.  Not only am I able to be at home with my children during the day, I’m able to have some ‘me’ time and meet other women, share stories, and make friends in my free time.  Let me help you tell your story.”

How can you not root for a woman like that?
