Liebster Award 2.0

Liebster Award

Yay! I am so thrilled that I have received the Liebster Award for a second time by a new-to-me blogger (you can read about my winning it the first time here). Jane from My Squeaky Sneakers is someone that I have recently started following, and I love her blog. It is different than the crafty and twin blogs that I usually follow, but her content and writing style is so wonderful and easy to read. I highly encourage you to check her out!

To quote Jane’s award post[The Liebster] is an award that has become quite well-known in the blogging community that helps blogs with great content but lower numbers of followers to get their names out there and pay it forward to some of their favorite bloggers. It is awarded by one blogger to another along with a series of questions to answer so your followers can get to know you better.

The award post from the recipient (me) starts with the questions (and my answers) that the awarder (Jane) has posed to her recipients:

1. How long have you been blogging and why did you start?

Technically, I have been blogging since 2004, when I started some blog my freshman year of college. I wrote 3 posts, and I can’t even tell you what the web address of that is. Sorry. After a long absence, I started blogging with my wedding planning blog in 2007 with BrideSaver. I then started this blog at in 2009 and moved it to in 2013.

2. What is your favorite kind of workout?

I looooooove yoga and Body Flow, but I haven’t been able to do them too much lately due to an injury to my shoulder blade. It is (hopefully) on the mend, however, so I hope to get back to a scheduled workout time to finish losing the pregnancy jelly belly.

3. If you could go anywhere on earth for a vacation, where would you go?

Europe. I know that is broad, but I would want to do the touristy history of England, the cheese tasting in France, the history and art of Italy, the culture of the Vatican, and the beaches of Greece. To top it off, I would want to take a boat to get over there, since I’m terrified of flying. That’s not too much to ask for, right?

4.What is your favorite song to run to?

Although I am NOT a runner, I have always been motivated to a high-speed workout on the eliptical to “American Idiot” by Green Day. It always pushes me to go a little harder.

5. What was the last movie you saw in theaters? Did you like it?

Now, before I answer, please remember what my last year and a half has entailed… twin pregnancy and raising twin infants….

“Les Miserables” and “Lincoln” (I saw them within days of each other). You can read my loooooong review of Les Miserables here.

6. What is your favorite healthy recipe?

My lentil soup recipe. Hands down. Amazing!

7. What is one of your blogging goals for 2014?

I have a couple: #1: I want to write content that is helpful and seen by others. You have no idea how amazing it is to get a comment by someone I have never met to tell me “thank you” for what I wrote because it helped them in their lives. I love that. #2 More comments. I want to see more people respond to what I write. #3 A consistent number of high views. I had 14,000 views in January and 11,000 in February and then again in March. I want to get it back up and keep it there. How it got that high is a mystery, but I’m working at more exposure (just because I’m competitive with myself and I like a challenge).

8. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?

In 5 years, I hope that I am still writing and crafting, but doing more with my twins (who will be close to entering kindergarten… yikes!). I am really excited for us to do things out and about Richmond once they are a bit more mobile, and I can’t wait for that phase (although I love each phase they’ve been in so far too). I really love being a SAHM, and I don’t want that to change. In 10 years, I hope that we have moved to our forever country house and that I have it mostly decorated and filled with meaningful items. I want a big huge craft room and playroom for our family and a pool and land for Lucy and the kids to run around. As for a “job” at that point, maybe I will have returned to work in some capacity, or maybe I am still working from the home. Either way, as long as I’m happy with what I’m doing and doing my part to support our family, that is what I want to do.

9. If you could choose one life lesson to tell your children one day, what would it be?

No matter what, do your best to stay positive and let others see that positivity. It’s ok if you have a bad day. It’s ok to wear your emotions on your sleeve. Just be careful with what you show. If you are always complaining or negative, that is how others will view you. Is that really what you want to be seen to the world? Probably not. Yes, you can be real and true to your feelings, but be smart about what you put out there.

10. Who’s side are you on, Peeta’s or Gale’s? Why?

I love this question. Gale! Peeta, while I really really want to root for him, is just too complain-y and weak. Plus, Gale reminds me of Tim, and I do love my husband!

11. What is your favorite thing about having a blog?

The feeling of being able to reach out to people, whether they are “real” people that I meet around town or online in the blog world. By being willing to put my life out there (and have people read it), it has given me the confidence to approach people and tell them about my blog (and even hand out my card to complete strangers). Hey, I’m already a semi-celebrity when I’m out with the twins. Why not use it to promote myself a little bit?

Now it is my turn to pass it on! The blogs that I have selected are:

2 Bears and Counting

A Modern Day Fairy Tale

Being Frankenfield

Loose Shoelaces

Snappy Casual

That Mama Jama

The Nest Effect

The Triple(t) Threat

Twin Trials and Triumphs

What’s Up Fagans?

And my questions for these bloggers to answer:

1. What is your biggest frustration with other people’s grammar?

2. Germophobe or germophile?

3. Glue gun or sewing?

4. What was your favorite grade in school and why?

5. If you could do anything other than your current job, what would it be?

6. If money were no object, where would you live?

7. Describe your dream house.

8. What is one thing on Pinterest that you would absolutely love to make/own/do?

9. Where is your favorite local place to shop?

10. What is your worst habit?

11. What book, TV,  or movie character fits you to a T?

Now you can pass the Liebster Award to some of your favorite bloggers.

I can’t wait to see your posts! When you post it, would you please copy the link in the comments here?

Another note from Jane: There are many variations of the rules that I have found out there, so as long as you pay it forward and keep this awesome award going, you should be fine! For some variations of the rules and to learn more, check out this post on that I found very helpful.

Congrats to the new Liebster Award recipients! Thank you, Jane, for passing it on to me!

  1. Congrats on your award! It is well deserved, and I loved reading your responses! Thanks for nominating me- I can’t wait to answer your questions 🙂

  2. Thank you for the nomination! I wish I would’ve been nominated soon so I could’ve included your questions in this post I just wrote last week (as I’ve been putting off responding to some other blog awards/nominations from others).

So, I will try to (briefly) answer them!
    1. What is your biggest frustration with other people’s grammar?
When people are lazy in text messages and do things like “u” and “4”.
    2. Germophobe or germophile?
    Germophile. Definitely.
    3. Glue gun or sewing?
Neither. I don’t do much crafting and always(!) burn myself!
    4. What was your favorite grade in school and why?
First grade! It was the best! And it all went down hill from there… ha. No, my dad (truck driver) sent post cards to our class, my mom came and volunteered for “Right to Read” and it was an explosion of learning, friendship, and so much fun.
    5. If you could do anything other than your current job, what would it be?
My current job is homemaker, momma of three, wife, and blogger-extraordinaire (ha). I’m actually loving all of those jobs very very much. 🙂 But, if my life was completely different, I’d either want to be in sales, maybe real estate, or working in some business corporation.
    6. If money were no object, where would you live?
In a house we owned! No more apartment living!
    7. Describe your dream house.
I want a modest home (less to clean!), but on a beautiful piece of land! I honestly don’t care as much about the house as I do with the property and the location. I want a home that will be warm and inviting though.
    8. What is one thing on Pinterest that you would absolutely love to make/own/do?
An awesome picture wall! And awesome play room for the kids and a cute bedroom for them. But, then I wonder why cause they’ll destroy. Still want it!
    9. Where is your favorite local place to shop?
    I just moved…. so I don’t know.
    10. What is your worst habit?
Popping my zits and picking at scabs.
    11. What book, TV, or movie character fits you to a T?
Great question. I have no idea. I don’t think I’ve found her yet!

  3. Here is my blog post! Thanks for the nomination Dory! I think I did everything correctly, but this is my first time…so let me know if I missed something! 🙂 xo

  4. I loved your Liebster Award post!

Thanks so much for passing this along and I loved your answers to my questions! Keep up the great blog work! And mom work! 🙂

  5. Thank you, Dory!!! I love these ‘get to know you’ posts! And I’m off to check out your lentil recipe! 🙂

  6. Just wanted to let you know my Liebster Award post is up! Hope you’ll pop by and check it out:

    • Yay! I saw it! It looks great. You are so sweet, and I am amazed at your blog! You go girl! By the way, how have you gotten so many subscribers?!? 484? That’s awesome!

      • Aw thanks, Dory! I’m really enjoying my blog. And I’m a little skeptical of that number…I think WordPress adds in twitter and facebook to come up with that number. When I check my stats, it says 41. Which is actually still pretty good considering I haven’t been at this that long!! I’m happy with it! 🙂

  1. […] that my good friend (and fellow blogger), Dory from Doyle Dispatch, has nominated me for the Liebster Award!  I have been following Dory’s blog for a while…and she doesn’t know this, but […]
