Sunshine Award

SUNSHINE AWARD

Ah, the weather is getting warmer (FINALLY!) and the sun is shining through! To top it off, I was given the Sunshine Award from Heather at Loose Shoelaces. I have known Heather for probably over 20 years, but we lost touch around high school after I left our private school where we met and became good friends. We have reconnected now through blogging, and I will say that it is so wonderful to see her succeed, both with her blog, professionally, and in her new marriage. She is a beautiful woman, both on the inside and out, and it really reflects in her blog, Loose Shoelaces. I HIGHLY encourage you to read her blog (so much so that I nominated her for the Liebster Award).

The Rules:

1. Post 11 random facts about yourself
2. Answer the 11 questions written by the person who nominated you
3. Nominate 11 bloggers you think bring sunshine to the world
4. Create 11 questions for your nominees to answer
Facts About Me:
1. I love organization. Come into my home, and you can tell that immediately with the baskets. Now, whether I can actually keep up with the organization is another story completely. That’s what cabinets are for (to hide your stuff in).
2. I roll the toilet paper over. I’m really superstitious about it. I will fix the roll if it is done incorrectly. It all started after I saw an episode of Step by Step years and years ago. Thanks, Suzanne Somers!
3. I love photography, but I know I have a lot to learn.
4. I love my friends so much, and I would do anything I can for them. I also believe that a true friend is someone that you can pick up and talk to after years, and nothing has changed except a few more wrinkles and gray hairs.
5. When I was a little girl, my teachers always wanted me to write with more detail. I hope they stumble across this blog sometime. They would be so shocked proud of my wordiness!
6. Bad grammar drives me crazy. If you don’t know how to use capitalization, punctuation, or spelling, don’t use it! Yes, I am that person that has perfectly punctuated text messages.
7. I have a problem with collecting children’s books. I have most of my books from my childhood, and I got a ton more when I started teaching. Now with Audrey and David, I have even more books.
8. I love how I have reconnected with friends from 15-20+ years ago recently because of this new time in our lives (marriage, babies, and entering our 30s).
9. My favorite thing to do is to be incredibly goofy with my husband, Tim. When I find something that he has done incredibly funny, I have a reaaaaaaally loud (and probably obnoxious) laugh.
10. Before the babies were born, I used to binge watch tons of TV. Seriously, my must-watch list was about 20 shows long. We hardly turn the TV on anymore, and I don’t miss it at all.
11. I love the color turquoise. Most of my clothes are in the mint/turquoise/aqua/blue/teal range.
The Questions from Heather:
1.  What’s your favorite thing to watch on Netflix/Hulu?
I like to binge-watch TV shows. First it was Greek, then Gossip Girl, then Orange is the New Black, now Weeds. I think I have a problem.
2.  What is your most memorable moment from teaching (good or bad!)?
This is awful. We were doing novel studies in my 4th grade class, and this group had selected to read Superfudge. Well, in it, there is a Santa spoiler. I had forgotten that part, and I was reading it along with my students. One of the girls in the group still believed, and when she read the spoiler, she was horrified and had to talk to her mom a good long while about it. Her mom was amazing and let me know about it so that I would be aware if I used the book in future years. She was so kind about it, even though she could have been awful. I mean, I ruined it for her daughter. I still feel awful about it to this day.
3.  What is your favorite holiday?
I love all of the winter holidays. My birthday, the twins birthday, Thanksgiving, Chanukkah, Christmas. It is such a joyful time, full of family and happiness. It is the best!
4.  What has been the sweetest thing a student has given you/said to you?
It’s not so much what has been said, but I am still very close to a few families (and of course my students), even now that I am no longer teaching. Those relationships mean so much to me. I love the huge hugs and big smiles that I get when I see my past students, so excited to see me that they can’t contain themselves.
5.  What is your favorite thing to cook? And yes, we would love the recipe.
My current favorite is my one-pot lemon chicken pasta. You can find the recipe here.
6.  If you could be any Disney character, who would you choose and why?
Oh my. When I was little, it was Ariel. We would always pretend to be Ariel in my parents’ oversized hot tub (which was kept more at a swimming pool temperature) and push ourselves out of the water dramatically. Since growing up a bit more, however, I find myself feeling more like Belle- curious and fascinated about the way the world works, yet still with an active imagination.
7.  What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
Baskin Robbins’ mint chocolate chip with a cherry on top! But since I can’t have milk, I settle for the coconut milk m.c.c ice cream. Yummy!
8.  What is your Starbucks order?
Soy chai latte. Mmmmm!
9.  What was your favorite childhood book?
A have a couple picture books: “Sue Likes Blue,” “A Sleepy Story,” and “Where the Wild Things Are.” Once I graduated to chapter books, I loved “A Cricket in Times Square,” “The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle,” and “Where the Red Fern Grows.”
10. Tell us about your best vacation!
I absolutely loved our honeymoon cruise to Belize, Costa Rica, and Panama. My most memorable, however, was our trip last year to Savannah, when we found out I was finally pregnant! It was dreary, cold weather, but we loved every single second!
11. What is your favorite blog, non teacher related?
I really, really love Young House Love. They live in Richmond (like us), and I am fascinated with their lives and DIY home projects.
