Types of Feeders

I breastfeed two children. While I have only done this for a few months, with 6-8 feedings a day, I definitely feel like I have an understanding for the styles and personalities of breastfeeding babies.

  1. The Miss Piggy – She snorts and grunts and gobbles up the milk with gusto and flair, just like the beloved Muppet.
  2. The Boob Smash – While eating, he often pulls up a clenched fist and pounds the boob.
  3. The Last Supper – She eats as if it is the last meal she will ever eat. Where will my next meal come from? I don’t know so I must eat this frantically.
  4. The Groper – Instead of the Boob Smash, he kneads yours breasts while eating in a groping manner. If he were a teenager, it would be inappropriate, but since he’s an infant, it’s adorable.
  5. The N Sync – Two babies eating at the same time, sucking in unison. It’s amazing to witness.
  6. The Yogi – Calm, serene, and patient.
  7. The Snuggler – Seemingly to meld with your skin while eating, this type of feeder just snuggles in for the long haul.
  8. The Sleeper – After eating (or even during eating) she falls asleep, tightly clutching your nipple in her mouth. This can cause quite the bit of pain when she startles herself awake in a few minutes.
  9. The Breakaway – While eating happily, she breaks her latch and quickly erupts into the most heartbreaking cry ever. If you can quickly help her find her food source again, she will be ok.
  10. The Spaz – Flailing arms, legs, head, torso. This can be dangerous for all involved, but it is probably very funny to watch from a distance.
