DIY Cell Phone Charger Pocket

A while ago, I found an adorable pin of a cell phone charger pocket: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/190769734189395854/.

However, once I clicked on it, I was redirected to this: http://eingemachtesvonanique.blogspot.com/search?updated-min=2010-01-01T00:00:00%2B01:00&updated-max=2011-01-01T00:00:00%2B01:00&max-results=50

Yes, not the best tutorial.

So, I decided to make my own tutorial.

Cut 2 pieces of felt (or other stiffer fabric) for your backing: 4.5″ x 8.5″ I cut them in two different colors.Cell Phone Charger Pocket - DoyleDispatch.com

I then cut out rectangles from the center. They are 2.5″ x 1″ rectangles, cut in 1″ from the top and sides.Cell Phone Charger Pocket - DoyleDispatch.com

I then cut out the accent fabric into a 5.5″ x 5.5″ square.

I folded the material over (about 1/4″) and sewed it so that there wouldn’t be any exposed raw edges. Cell Phone Charger Pocket - DoyleDispatch.com

Once I lined it up, I found that the pocket was a little longer than the felt backing.Cell Phone Charger Pocket - DoyleDispatch.com Cell Phone Charger Pocket - DoyleDispatch.com

I folded the pocket once more and pinned it to the felt.Cell Phone Charger Pocket - DoyleDispatch.com

I sewed around three sides, leaving the top not sewn (to keep it as a pocket).

I was worried about the felt not being strong enough, so I stitched around all of the edges with a decorative stitch (and to make it stronger).Cell Phone Charger Pocket - DoyleDispatch.com

I then took a section of fabric that was the width of the entire pocket and much longer. I folded it over and over again until it was quite thick.Cell Phone Charger Pocket - DoyleDispatch.com Cell Phone Charger Pocket - DoyleDispatch.com

I sewed it to the top of the felt pocket. This gave it just a bit more strength when I hung a phone from it.Cell Phone Charger Pocket - DoyleDispatch.com

Here it is in use!
