DIY Sign: Give Thanks/Merry Mail

Last year, we wanted a way to hang up all of the holiday cards that we received, so we hung a burlap ribbon around the bannister and clipped on the cards. You can see the pictures in our “Oh Christmas Tree” post from last year. When that got too full, we hung a ribbon from the mantle and had overflow there.

This year, we will be adding 2 stockings to the mantle, so this will be a little harder to do. Plus, the burlap didn’t stay well around the bannister. So, I decided to use my craftiness (and my need to keep my feet up to reduce swelling), and I made us a sign!

On one side of the sign, it says “Give Thanks.” We are able to use this as a advent-type calendar where we can add things that we are thankful for each day. Some days we are more serious than others:

  • a supportive family
  • a strong marriage
  • our home
  • becoming parents
  • second dinner
  • cheeseburgers
  • football
  • modern medicine
  • family recipes
  • 36 weeks!
  • belly laughs
  • our pets
  • fall weather
  • a good night’s sleep
  • Mucinex Extra Strength
  • a great job
  • lazy weekends

On the other side, it says “Merry Mail,” and we will be able to hang the different cards that we get all season.

One sign, two months of use. Love it! Now, I just have to come up with other signs for that area for the rest of the year.
