Hello, Silhouette Cameo!

Starting a Silhouette Cameo

It’s here! My new Silhouette Cameo! This is something that I had my eye on for a while, and I was able to use my latest commission check from Thirty-One to order it from Amazon! Wohoo!!! With our Prime shipping (usually free 2-day shipping), I was able to add 1-day shipping for just $3.99! So, I ordered Wednesday morning before school, and it arrived on my doorstep Thursday afternoon! I fell in love with this thing, even before I took it out of the box.
The Cameo came with a registration card (I did that right away). Here’s a hint to Silhouette buyers: the registration number is on the back of the machine on a white sticker. I had to call to ask which sticker was the correct one, and they picked up on the 1st ring! Now THAT’S customer service!

After quickly reading some safety warnings (basically, be careful: it’s sharp!),

I was ready to set up my first project!

Do I want to use the $10 coupon to the online store? Not yet…

I followed the set-up requirements (this took literally 5 minutes),

downloaded the software from the included CD (only about 4 minutes for this),

and I could start designing!

When I opened the software, I learned that yes, all of the TONS of fonts that I had downloaded are available to use! I didn’t have to do anything, as they automatically imported from my Font Book (on Macs).

Once I got the wording just right, I put the vinyl on the sticky cutting mat (my package came with two of the 12×12 mats). Do you notice the bubbles? I later repositioned it and flattened those out.

Eek! I loaded it wrong!

I had to do some re-cutting, but it turned out well.

I then used the Pick Me Up tool (also came with my package), and I could install the letters on the pumpkin.

It was missing something…

Much better!
Now, in an attempt to be very high-tech, I even recorded a video of the first cut. Enjoy!

Hi there! I came across you Pin on Pinterest and it brought me to your amazing blog. I just got my silhouette cameo but having a tough time with getting the fonts in the silhouette studio. I too have a Mac and I see the fonts in my font book. Would you mind letting me know how I get them from the Font Book to my Silhouette Studio. Thank you so very much!!

    • Hi Michelle! Thank you so much for finding our blog! I’m so glad that it can be helpful (and maybe a little entertaining) for you! For the fonts, once they are in your Font Book, if you open Silhouette Studio, they should automatically install all of your fonts. I have a couple that I have downloaded that haven’t transferred over, but I have so many of them, that I don’t miss those “missing” fonts. Have you tried just opening it to see if they automatically transfer? It will take a while to open the first time.

  2. You need to close the silhouette software and ‘re open to load New fonts. Just make sure you save any open projects first.. hope this helps…

  3. Can someone please explain why I still have my cameo in a box? Hubby bought it from November and all I did was load the software. Haventh even looked at the machine or the things that came with it!! I’m scared

    • Oh no! You must change that! I personally tear into something new the moment that I get it inside my house (I have also been known to wear clothes out of the store after buying them). I say just try something! Don’t wait until you have a project. Just get some cheap cardstock and do some cutting (just make your cutting mat a little less sticky first)! Enjoy! Let me know if you have questions.

  4. I have had my Silhouette for months now and have not yet used it! I am a “hands on”learner, so I need a video tutorial to learn how to use it. Do you have any suggestions?
