My First Quilt

It’s finished! I started it back in April during our spring break, and I finally finished it today! All in all, it took about 2 weeks of work, 2 sewing machines (my old Singer died in the middle), 3 spools of thread, a bunch of old Thirty-One fabric samples, about 2 yards of other fabric, some batting, and 2 packets of binding. I mostly figured it all out myself, with just a couple of pieces of inspiration online. I looked at some blogs to see how to put it together, but I didn’t follow any one blog for directions.

It’s not perfect AT ALL.

It’s not the prettiest AT ALL.

But it’s mine! I did it!

Now I need a quilting break! I have the pieces cut out and pieced together for my Hokie quilt. That one will have to wait. I’m tired of quilting!

Thanks, Pat! The picture is up now! Let me know if you can’t see it.

  3. I love this….having also done a quilt, I know how it can be frustrating and make you tired! Awesome job..wonder if I have enough left over swatches to do this?

Hi Mary! Thanks for your comment!

I actually got these swatches from another consultant, as I started with Thirty-One just as these were all retiring. If you want to do the project soon, ask around to see if anyone has extra samples. I am saving all of my current swatches, and I will probably create either another quilt or use them for a different project.

The hardest thing about this quilt was that all of the material of the swatches were different, and they were not the same size. I am still working on cutting my fabric perfectly to make them the same size. As for the different types of material, the flexibility can make or break the project. Some were stiffer, while others were like canvas or cotton. This became tricky when I was doing the quilting step. Good luck if you decide to make one! Make sure to post a picture!

  4. I see it now! A great idea for a quilt!
